The Heart is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers
"In the town there were two mutes, and they were always together."
In my opinion, this is the first line of one of the most haunting and moving novels that you will ever read. First published in 1940, this hardback edition of The Heart is a Lonely Hunter was reprinted by Century Hutchinson & Co, London in 1986.
It comes complete with dust jacket and is bound in black boards with gold lettering to the spine. It is in good, but not perfect, condition. There are no creases, tears or annotations either inside the book or on its dust jacket. There is a slight bump to the book around mid-spine, just visible on the dust jacket, though not on the book itself. There is slight foxing to the edges ot the text block - please see pictures - and also to the inside of the dust jacket.
No spoilers, but this is Southern Gothic at its best - a classic.
