The Book of Margery Kempe is  widely regarded as  the earliest surviving autobiography in English.  It is attributed to Margery Kempe,  a woman who lived at the turn of the 15th century. She was a mystic, a pilgrim and a traveller, and the book is a fascinating account of her life, times and beliefs.

This Folio Society edition also contains very interesting additional information in the introduction written by Windeatt, comprehensive notes to all the chapters and a detailed list for further reading.
