Platypus: The Extraordinary Story  of How a Curious Creature Baffled the World

by Ann Moyal

This book was published in the United States in a large format by Smithsonian Institution Press in 2001. This is the first edition and first printing of the Australian edition, published by Allen and Unwin in the same year as the US edition in a smaller and more manageable format. It is in very good condition both inside and out, with only a little edgewear to the dust jacket at top and bottom of spine, but otherwise there are no creases, tears, marks or other annotations.

Ann Moyal, an Australian historian of science, delves into the story of the platypus, a creature which has confounded scientists and naturalists ever since it was first encountered by Europeans in 1798.

Moyal blends scientific detail with a lively narrative, making this book both engaging  and accessible, even to readers without a scientific background.

This is an informative and enjoyable book, recommended for anyone interested in natural history, the history of science, or simply the quirky wonders of the natural world.
