If you have ever heard the admonition "That's not according to Hoyles" then here is the very book that the admonisher is referring to.

This edition of the famous tome is a facsimile reprint produced by Lifetime Distributors, NSW in 1993.  Apart from mild shelf wear and some very light toning to the top of the text block, this paperback of 535 pages is in very good condition. The contents are arranged alphabetically and by card game family, beginning with All Fours and ending with Widows, with comprehensive sections on popular games such as Bridge and Poker in their many forms. Illustrated with black and white images and diagrams throughout. This book is great for settling disputes among experienced card players or for introducing previously unknown games and variations.

A little potted history:

The concept of "Hoyle's Rules" dates back to the 18th Century when an Englishman by the name of Edmund Hoyle published his first book on card games, "A Short Treatise on the Game of Whist" in 1742. Since then, there have been many iterations, but it is generally thought that the definitive edition, which compiled and standardized the rules for many card games, was first published by the United States Playing Card Company (USPCC) in 1914. Since then it has been updated many times  and remains a popular and useful reference book for the cards enthusiast.
