This 1992 Everyman's Library edition of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy translated by Louise and Aylmer Maude is a hardvover classic in excellent condition both inside and out. The pages are bright and clean with no annotations or markings and the binding is tight. The dust jacket has no marks, creases or tears altough there is a little ruffling along the top edge, just visible in the pictures.
 Tolstoy's masterpiece explores the doomed love affair between Anna, a married aristocrat, and Count Vronsky, set against the backdrop of Russian society during the 1870's. The novel contrasts this turbulent affair with the more grounded relationship of another couple, Levin and Kitty.
The translators, Louise and Aylmer Maude, were close friends of Tolstoy and collaborated with him on many translations, as well as on his own biography. Their work on this translation is celebrated for its faithfulness to Tolstoy's style and intent, was approved by Tolstoy himself, and is a delight to read.
This Everyman edition also includes an interesting introduction by John Bayley, which offers useful insights into the novel's themes and historical context. It was first published in serial form from 1875 to 1877, sparking some controversy due to its implied critique of Russian society and its focus on female agency. It is now regarded  as one of the cornerstones of world literature and one of a great writer's finest achievements.
